In 2006 Frame Of Mind CIC became the first Community Interest Company to be set up in Bognor Regis. Formed by a group of determined mental health service users and carers, we initially provided vocational training for local adults with mental health issues and learning disabilities. Our trainees learnt picture framing, digital printing, and customer care skills in a real business environment. As their confidence grew they became more active members of their community, moving onto volunteering, education and employment. We have worked with many people with severe and enduring conditions including armed services veterans with PTSD.
In the coming years we set up a new service to help local adults Living with Dementia. This was one of the very first projects in the UK to work one to one in a real business and they won a National Award for their scheme. At the time Dr David Sheard a leading authority on dementia care said the following about Frame Of Mind:
“Frame of Mind is a unique ground breaking Community Interest Company. It is led with such heart, passion and determination to reach people. Focusing on the ever increasing population of people experiencing early dementia, who are at huge risk of being excluded in society, Frame of Mind makes a massive difference. By providing meaningful work, friendship and purpose in life it is at the forefront in the future of a new culture of dementia care. Most support services in dementia care in the UK need to learn from this creative organisation about how to support people to come alive and feel of worth. Social inclusion is really lived here and made a true reality by this organisation that proves people really matter. “
We also have created a Community Garden on site training people in basic horticulture; creating a green space for everyone to use in the middle of a business park and winning many Awards in Bognor in Bloom along the way.
Improving quality of life and maintaining independence is at the heart of everything we do. We want our trainees to once again take part in everyday activities that many people take for granted.
